Jimmy Barrett was elected the pastor of Southside Baptist Church on October 6th, 2024.
Originally from the Nashville, Tennessee area, he and his family are excited to be "home" in South Georgia—an area they have loved and desired to live in for many years.
Jimmy became a born-again believer in July of 1995 at the age of 14, after being led to the Lord by a bus ministry worker attempting to start a new bus route in Jimmy's neighborhood. Soon after becoming a Christian, Jimmy began attending church, and the Lord worked in his life in a mighty way. In April of 1997, Jimmy answered the call to preach and soon began preaching at every opportunity the Lord allowed. He was ordained in September of 2004, shortly before the start of his first pastorate.
Before moving to South Georgia, Jimmy pastored in Tennessee for several years while serving on the executive staff of a non-profit Christian ministry. Through the years, he has also served as an associate pastor, youth pastor, and music director.
Jimmy graduated from Macedonia Bible College with a degree in Theology.
He has been married to the love of his life, Pamela, since May of 2003. The Lord has blessed them with two beautiful daughters.
Our pastor is a firm believer in the importance of Bible preaching and teaching. He believes God is still able to send revival, still able to work in the hearts and lives of people, and, most of all, still able to save all who will call upon the name of Jesus!
Although pastoring keeps Jimmy quite busy, he enjoys fishing when he is able and also enjoys playing several musical instruments.
Our pastor would love to hear from you and would be honored to minister in any way. You may contact him at pastor@sbcwaycross.com.
